Sacred Geography
Every tradition emerged from a specific place. Here is where they were born — and where they traveled.
Click any marker to explore the tradition. Toggle the spread overlay to see how each religion moved across the world. The map uses an equirectangular projection — the same view that ancient cartographers used to imagine the whole of the known world.

This map shows where the traditions were born. But it cannot show what they felt like from the inside — the terror of the first shaman entering the cave, the grief of the exiled Jew in Babylon composing psalms by a foreign river, the wonder of the first Buddhist monk watching the mind grow still in meditation.
The map is the beginning of the question, not the answer. The answer is in the zones.
